Epik High (에픽하이) Parts Ways With YG Entertainment

Epik High came to the end of their contract with YG Entertainment.

On October 2, YG Entertainment announced through an official statement, “YG Entertainment’s exclusive contract with Epik High has ended. After long discussion, YG and Epik High came to an agreement to not renew.”

YG Entertainment continues, “YG expresses gratitude to Tablo and Epik High, who have done great music together with us for seven years. We are also cheering on their new start and activities. We hope they will always be in good health and happiness, and we ask for many people to send blessings for Epik High’s future. We express our deep gratitude to the fans who have loved Epik High as an artist of YG.”

Epik High has been with YG Entertainment since 2011 but it’s been 14 years since the group debut.

Having as members Tablo, Mithra Jin, and DJ Tukutz – Epik High was formed in 2001 under Woolim Entertainment and opened a new chapter in the Korean Hip- Hop scene.

Tablo joined the YG family in 2011 , followed by his members in 2012.

Also known as gods of hip hop, masters of producing, and a force to be reckoned with in the Korean music industry. Epik High speaks truths only a few are brave enough to verbalize in song lyrics – be it social criticism or raising awareness for the troubles of a whole generation of Korean and global citizens.

In the last 14 years of making music, Epik High certainly went through all sorts of changes, and with them, their music and style.

While some of the haircuts might not have aged particularly well, their early songs are still valued, and the meaning and stories in the lyrics are still very much relevant.

The trio has released 9 studio albums and multiple special albums, singles, and OSTs. On top of that, they have received numerous Korean music awards and is the 2nd Korean act to perform at Coachella.

The group puts quality over quantity, thus making their MVs a rare sight. But whenever they do release music and MVs, fans get overly excited for what’s to come.

Now, it is time for them to open another chapter in their lives. It will be interesting to see where they are heading off to next.

Thus, we wish them all the best for the future!
